.

What causes neck pain?

There’s no one cause of neck pain as many factors can lead to pain and discomfort. If you work at a computer day in and out, you may experience neck pain due to muscle strain and tension. Chronic neck pain can be caused by age-related chronic conditions like arthritis.

Accidental injuries that inflict trauma on your neck or back can result in neck pain as can poor posture over an extended period of time. If you’re constantly looking down while texting or using mobile devices, you may eventually feel the pain of “tech neck.” Neck pain could also be due to whiplash from a rear end collision.

How does whiplash cause neck pain?

Whiplash is a neck injury caused by sudden impact that causes your head to snap forward and back quickly. This rapid motion stretches and tears soft tissues in your neck, causing pain, inflammation, and numbness. Whiplash can also displace facet joints in your neck and spine, causing them to become misaligned. If these misaligned structures press on spinal nerves, you will experience pain.

What are some common symptoms of neck pain?

Besides pain, you may experience some or all of the following symptoms depending on your injury or chronic condition:

  • Burning
  • Numbness
  • Dull aching
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Restricted range of motion and mobility
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Sleep loss

How is neck pain treated?

Chiropractic care offers an alternative to pain killers for relieving pain and discomfort of neck pain. Our chiropractor uses techniques like adjustments and spinal manipulation to realign misplaced joints in your neck and spine. This relieves stress and takes pressure off of spinal nerves to reduce pain and restore neck mobility.

Massage therapy may be used to relax tense muscles so you can move your neck more freely without feeling pain. Massage also helps circulate blood to injured areas to help you heal. Last, but not least, we’ll teach you stretching exercises that can help relieve joint and muscle stiffness to improve range of motion and mobility.
